Holidays: Scheduled holidays are indicated on the School Calendar
Personal Days: Employees are entitled to five (5) personal days per year, three of which are at the cost of a substitute. Personal days should be scheduled in advance with your supervisor and require that provisions be made to "cover" your assignment in accordance with the requirements of your school/department.

Sick Days: Employees earn sick days at a rate of one (1) day per month worked, i.e. 9 month employees - 9 days per year, 10 month employees - 10 days per year, 12 month employees - 12 days per year. Sick days are accumulated and transferable between Alabama school systems, and may count as service for the purpose of computing retirement benefits.

Vacation: (Applicable to twelve (12) month employees only)

Employees with up to15 years of employment earn 10 days per year, at the rate of 5/6 day per month.

Employees with over 15 years service earn 15 days per year, at the rate of 1.25 days per month.

All full time employees must participate in the retirement plan administered by the Retirement System of Alabama. Your monthly payroll will be deducted 5% of gross compensation for this contribution. Employees are vested in the Retirement System after ten (10) years of service.

Administrative services provided by American Fidelity Assurance. Benefits included in the Cafeteria Plan are paid with pre-tax dollars. Qualified benefits available include Hospital/Medical and supplemental benefits; Dental, Vision, Hospital, Indemnity, Accident, Cancer and Flexable Spending Accounts (Un-Reimbursed medical and Dependent Day Care expenses.)

 Hospital / Major Medical: Coverage through the Public Education Employees Health Insurance Plan (PEEHIP) is available for all full-time employees. Both single and family coverage is available with a choice of traditional indemnity insurance through Blue Cross / Blue Shield of Alabama or Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) - and Viva. Each full time employee is provided an allocation of the offset of the cost. The employee cost of coverage is $2.00/month for individual or $134.00/month for family coverage. Employees who have spouses who are also eligible for PEEHIP as a school system employee in Alabama may combine allocations to eliminate any out-of-pocket premium cost for health insurance.

 Optional: Employees not wishing to purchase PEEHIP coverage may use their benefit allocation to purchase optional coverage through Southland Insurance Company. This includes coverage for Dental, Vision, Cancer and Indemnity. If you select optional health coverage you may purchase it at a cost of $38.00/month for each one desired.

 Dental: Dental with BlueCross may be purchased within 30 days of hire date. You must enroll all family members at this time. Single $12 - Two person $29 - Family $52. Information can be obtained at the Central Office 379-2125.

Group Life Insurance: The Jefferson County Board provides $10,000 Group Life Insurance at no cost to you. You may also purchase additional Group Life Insurance, including dependant coverage.

Group Disability Coverage: Protects your paycheck in the event you become disabled and unable to work. Provided by American Fidelity Assurance.

Cancer Coverage: Supplemental coverage that pays benefits directly to you for canter related expenses including Diagnostic Testing, Radiation & Chemotherapy, Surgery, Travel and much more. Provided by American Fidelity Assurance.

Life Insurance: Individual and Family - Term and Permanent/Whole Life is available. Provided through American Fidelity Assurance.

Long-Term Care: Covers Home Health Care, Adult Day Care, Assisted Living, Nursing Home, Alzheimer's/Specialty Care, and Hospice. Provided by American Fidelity Assurance.

Vision Coverage: Provided by American Fidelity Assurance
